Home U.S.A.

America, the land of opportunity . . . . .  From the depths of the Grand Canyon to the heights of the Empire State building, the glitz of Las Vegas to the tranquil bays of New England. Take the opportunity to live the American Dream. Mr and Mrs White from Petersfield did just that. Having only travelled to New York for a weekend they wanted to return and see as much as they could of the United States in just over two weeks. So they decided to head way out West!

Picking up a car in Los Angeles they decided on a few days in Anaheim to visit Disneyland followed by total relaxation in the Palm Springs desert resort before entering Arizona to see the spectacular Grand Canyon. After some fun filled nights in Las Vegas, the gambling and entertainment capital of America, they travelled on to picturesque Sequoia National Park.

Their final destination was San Francisco, the most beautiful city in the USA. particularly when viewed at night from the Sausalito side of the Golden Gate bridge.

  • Day 3 (120 miles).
Take the relatively short drive to Palm Springs Desert Resorts, a great place for shopping, eating, playing golf or relaxing by the pool. Take a tram ride up to the 8,516 feet high summit of Mount San Jacinto or hike through the beautiful Indian Canyons with their waterfalls and palm trees.

  • Day 7 (120 miles).
Continue through Oak Creek Canyon, one of the most scenic canyons in the
southwest. You may like to take a detour to see sunset Crater, an ancient volcano and Wupatki National Monument. Arrive at the Grand Canyon in time for sunset viewing.
  • Days 8 and 9 (274 miles).
Drive west to the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, passing over the Hoover Dam en route. Enjoy two fun filled days and nights in the original city of entertainment and have a flutter at one of the many casinos.
  • Day 10 (345 miles).
Make an early start and leave Las Vegas behind you as you head through the Mojave Desert and into the Sierra Nevada. Tonight's destination is Visalia, close to Sequoia National Park, whose giant redwoods are thought to be the oldest living things on earth.
  • Days 11 and 12 (185 miles).
Drive north to visit Yosemite, the best loved of all California's national parks. You will have plenty of time to explore the towering rock formations and waterfalls of Yosemite Valley and to head to Tuolumme Meadows in the quieter section of the park.
  • Days 13 and 14 (200 miles).
Travel on to San Francisco, the most beautiful city in the US, for 2 nights. You will have a full day to explore Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown or take a boat trip to Alcatraz. Start by taking a city bus tour to get a good overview and hop off before the end to take a cable car ride - make sure you have some loose change to pay the conductor.
